Phoenix Academy

T

he Hi-Desert Teamster Retirees met at Golden Corral on Nov. 30 for their last meeting of the year. Each member brought in a toy for the giveaway as they do each year at this time.

This year they felt the need to help the Phoenix Academy School of Apple Valley with gifts for the students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Principal Mariana Torres and director of family services Virginia Barron attended the meeting to collect the toys.

Ann Kline of Mea Ola's Place drove in from Phelan to donate toys and the representative of Kaiser Permanente from Fontana brought toys to donate.

It is a wonderful feeling to be able to help even in a small way to ensure those less fortunate have a Merry Christmas.

Retirees are currently participating in a coat drive as part of ongoing help for this school. Last year they donated a new washer and dryer to the school. This year they also donated hygiene items for the students.

Retirees are great at giving back to the community they live in.
